Travel uniforms
- Entering Grade 3-4: If entering or if new to the travel program, a uniform must be purchased at Day Street Sports.
- Place your order at least 6 weeks in advance to ensure it arrives in time.
- We are offering both a unisex and a girls uniform and players may choose from either (and mix and match). Price and kit content depend on age group.
- Any questions may be directed to Phil Medna [email protected].
Birthdate Verification
Players on travel rosters Grade 4 and up are required to send a copy of the birth certificate to [email protected].
Each player will have to be verified only once.
Building Teams
There are several factors Norwood Youth Soccer considers in determining the number and size of teams at each age group.
The main factors used to determine the number of teams includes:
- Number of players registered
- Number of volunteers we have for coaches
- Teams in higher divisions & sections should lean towards lower numbers
- Teams in lower division & sections should carry more players
- Teams Grade 6 and older and Division 2 and adobe are eligible for the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC). They carry roster limits imposed by BAYS
- NYS will carry more players on non-MTOC teams to accommodate ontime registrations where possible
- Oversized rosters will severely limit the playing time each player receives and could impact their development
While the Travel Director has the final say in how big a roster is, our preferred roster sizes are:
- 7v7 - 10-14
- 9v9 – 12-16
- 11v11 – 14-20
Players will be placed on a roster based on their skill level. Skill level of players is determined based on:
- Spring evaluations conducted by the Revolution
- Coaches' feedback forms
- Personal knowledge of players from board members who know the player
- Prior teams the player has been on
- Other inputs as and when needed
Waitlisted players placed AFTER rosters are sent may be placed based on team size (if we have a player skilled for high division 3 but only have openings on lower skilled teams they may be on that team). We will not adjust rosters, once set, to accommodate a late registrant.
BAYS Division Structure
In BAYS teams are separated into 4 Divisions with multiple sections within each division. The number of sections will vary based on the number of teams registered and most sections carry 6 teams to allow for 10 games (some sections will be larger or smaller accommodate all teams registered with BAYS for each division). Sections run alphabetically with A being the most competitive and becoming less competitive as you move down the alphabet. Each division is described below:
Division 1
- Most competitive – elite level
- Playoff eligible in Spring (Grade 6 & older)
- Typically just 1-3 sections (A-C)
- Teams placed on skill, club request and past record
Division 2
- Competitive –very high skill level
- Playoff eligible in Spring (Grade 6 & older)
- Typically 6-8 sections (A-H)
- Teams placed on skill, club request and past record
Division 3
- Moderately competitive – high skill level
- No playoffs
- Typically 15-18 sections (A-R)
- Teams placed by skill and geography (BAYS will try and keep travel to less than 40 minutes IF enough similarly skilled teams)
Division 4
- Least competitive – lower skill level
- No playoffs
- Typically 8-12 sections (A-L)
- Teams placed by skill and geography
